Explore Protect and Preserve!
We are all lovers of Richelieu Rock: for many years, after hundreds and hundreds of dives, we always have the same excitement every time we jump in the water for what we will meet below the surface.
Let's say that Richelieu Rock could be like our second home ... and our first underwater!
Until now it was only possible to dive in Richelieu during a cruise with a minimum of 3 days, or daily starting from Khaolak Boarding areas, far south from the site.
Due to the long navigation (between 45 - 32 miles in the best cases) speedboats were exclusively in use to make it possible in one day.
Requiring high speed due to the distance and the passengers with the heavy diving equipment, biggest outboard engines became compulsory and the race between the boat operators pushes them to always invest in faster and bigger boats with higher passengers capacity requiring huge powered engines.
All the ingredients are so combined for the highest consumption of fuel per passenger, meaning a very high production of CO2 / diver equivalent to the needed energy,
Above all this prohibitive pollution, you have also to pay for that fuel you spend ☹
Feeling very concerned by this critical ecological point, we have decided to reduce CO2 production as much as we can.
Yes we can do better when we want!
At first we have decided to relocate the departure at the closest point from Richelieu Rock – at the same latitude: 18 miles only!
- Then we have chosen to run day trips with a bigger boat, slower of course, but tailored for diving and the destination, privileging a reduced CO2 production per passenger – we have a lot of place for you!
- As a result, the navigation time is almost equivalent, but the fuel consumption per diver has decreased considerably for the good of all, for our oceans and our planet, at the time everyone is aware and concerned.
In addition, by reducing the sailing distances, we are now able to offer overnight diving trips (2 days / 1 night) on board one of our liveaboard vessel - Bunmee 3 - based in Koh Surin - avoiding extra navigation go and back to the coast every 2 days:
6 dives in 2 days (4 in Richelieu – 2 in Surin or Koh Tachai) instead of 2 per day for several days…
Less consumption, less CO2 production, at a better price!
